Eastfield Joinery

Eastfield Joinery is my father’s business founded in 2010 based in Scarborough and providing across Yorkshire. I was just about to start a graphic design course at college, and the business was in need of a website, so I helped to get a basic Google Site setup and running until such time where I learnt how to build a website.

The challenge

The Final Major Project at college was a free reign project, and because I had learnt the basics of web design using Dreamweaver WYSIWYG features in a previous module, I decided to design Eastfield Joinery’s website.

I set out to design a clean, simple, and visually appealing 5-page website. Because I was still new to the game, and I was only taught the basics of Dreamweaver, this website is still very primitive and used XHTML, CSS2, Flash Player, and Jotform. This was perfect as a Final Major Project, but as a real-world website it wasn’t up to scratch.

The solution

After investing my time to teaching myself the proper skills in web development, I redesigned Eastfield Joinery’s website from the ground up. This time it was on the backbone of HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap. The new revamped one-page design is refreshing and professional.

A big part of this redesign was making sure that it was completely responsive to screen sizes, and optimised for search engines. The whole content needed to be rejiggled to incorporate SEO techniques.

Using PHP, MySQL and powered by Ajax, I implemented dynamic and responsive pagination, adding a many-to-many relational database entry to sort new images into categories, submitting and retrieving reviews dynamically, and various other semi-automatic and dynamic functionality.

The website as it stands today was completed in 2018. This was a massive project to undertake, from learning and improving to implementing new technologies. Ever since the initial SEO implementation, the website has been at position 1 in Google for some of its keywords, and within the top 10 for most others. It is a very solid design throughout, and it serves as my first live website.

Stuart has done a wonderful job on our website.

Before his Graphic Design course at college, we created a very basic website together via Google Sites: it wasn't doing the family business any justice. But now, Stuart produced this wonderful piece of work for a college project, and it keeps getting better with every update.

We have had many excellent reports about our website from our customers, which is always an added bonus.

I am really thrilled with the website, thanks again.
